I use these straps, they work great. If I had instead tied to an area under the front of my car it would have been difficult and the rope would have rubbed the hood and bumper. I use the tie-down straps on a 2013 Toyota RAV 4 to secure a 9’ kayak mounted on J-bars. You may have to get a little creative to find a secure place to install the strap under the hood of your vehicle. Look for metal and not plastic.
These were so easy to install in my vehicle. I'm glad I purchased these. I can tuck them away if I'm not using them and when I do use them, it looks like I'm an outdoorsy guy and bougie when I'm hauling my kayak in the mountains. They are durable and I can trust that these straps will secure my kayak ties without worry.
Remove fender bolt on each side of vehicle. Had to use longer bolts and i used a flat washer to install the anchor. I have used them several times since installing and they work fine to fasten straps too for carrying two 12 ft kayaks and hold them securely. They do not rub the paint off on the hood as they do not move.
They work as intended just be careful and don't torque the bolts down too much the metal rings will warp. Use a washer to prevent this from occurring.

Remove a bolt along the edge of the engine bay on each side, slip the loop’s ring over it and replace the bolt. Close the hood and the loop hangs outside, ready for a bow line.
Don’t over-torque the bolt, and add a flat washer. Some cars need a slightly longer bolt.
